SIT50307: Diploma of Hospitality

Admission Requirements

The following English language requirements, as a minimum, must be achieved:

  • Australian Year 12, or Recognised Equivalent; IELTS 5.5 -overall band or TOEFL 525 (paper based)or PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic Score 4.2
  • The medium of instruction at school was English and satisfactory grades in English were achieved in final examinations (Level 1 and Level 2 Countries).


BIT will not accept overseas students who would be under 18 years of age at the time of proposed commencement.

Course Overview

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a manager in any hospitality functional area. This individual would possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and be able to use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and/ or the work of their team. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

Course Duration

2 Years. (4 Study Periods)

Course Fees

AUD $16,500. Tuition fees can be paid for one study period’s fees in advance of $5,000.
Note: Additional payments are required for uniforms and materials ($850) plus $500 towards book and materials in the second year

Mode of Study

Full Time. The Diploma of Hospitality requires students to have at least supervisory to some managerial experience in the Hospitality Industry.


Will be based on one, or more, of the following - tests, assignments, Assessment will be based on two or more, of the following: Activities; Oral/written Test; Project; Case Study; Practical Demonstration; Role Plays.

Course Outcomes

Students successfully completing this course may gain employment hospitality industry managing a department in a large hospitality enterprise; managing a small hospitality enterprise.

Credit Transfer RPL

Credit Transfer (CT)/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be granted to international students. Reduction in units may shorten the course duration and may affect your student visa. Please refer to the note below.


As a part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recoginsed. On successful completion students will be awarded Diploma of Hospitality.

Student Visa Requirements - Full-Time Study

International students are required to be enrolled in full-time study (an average of at least 20 contact hours per week. Part-time study is not permitted, except where necessary to complete the last few units of a course.

Where students are entitled to Recognition of Prior learning (RPL), Credit Transfers or exemptions, they are still required to have a full-time study load.
