Student Support
Attendance
The institute expects you to attend all classes. If you are sick, you should provide a medical certificate.
Satisfactory Academic progress
International students must maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their course. Satisfactory academic progress means that you must maintain an assessment of “competent” in more than fifty percent of the modules you are undertaking over two successive compulsory study periods (note that each compulsory study period is six months). The Institute is required to report any student to DIAC who is deemed to have not maintained satisfactory academic progress.
Disciplinary Policy
All BIT students are expected to maintain correct standards of conduct at all times. Where behaviour is deemed to be improper or incorrect, the college will take necessary action as outlined in the Code of Conduct Policy. The code of conduct is presented to students during induction/orientation and is displayed around the College.
Settling into BIT
It can be quite a difficult transition from your culture to Australian culture. BIT strives to achieve an excellent relationship with all students arriving from overseas and provides on campus support through its Student Support Services Program. An on campus counsellor is available to provide you with all the necessary information, support and advice required for a smooth and pleasant stay.
When necessary BIT can also provide referrals to external support services (legal, welfare services etc). The referral is free of charge. Any service after the referral is at the student’s expense.
Here are some guides to help you settle into your new life here at BIT.
