Do I need to tell you if I change my address?
Yes, it's very important that we be able to contact you. Please see reception if you have changed any of your contact details. This is a requirement of DIAC.
Can I change my class times if I need to go to work?
Please note that we cannot change our class times to suit your working schedule. It is up to you to make sure that you get to class on time and that your working hours do not interfere with your study time. Remember that you are only allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours a week during term.
What happens if I lose my books or equipment?
You will be given your first set of materials during orientation. If you then lose them you will have to pay to replace each lost item. Please see reception if you need to buy new books or equipment. Replacement costs are located on the fees page.
How do I get a login name and password for the computer labs?
You will automatically be given a username (your student ID) and password when you enrol at BIT. Your temporary password will be 'welcome'. When you first login you will be asked to enter a new password. Please do not share your password with anyone else. If you need to reset your password please see IT on level 2.
What if I run out of print credits?
You're automatically credited with 100 print credits each semester. If you exceed these credits you will need to pay $5 for 100 more credits. Please see the finance section on level 1 to pay for more credits.
Can I bring my lunch to class?
There is no eating in classrooms. On each floor there is a lunch area equipped with microwaves, vending machines and water.
How Can I receive a copy of my results?
Please see reception for a copy of your results. You will need to present your ID and interim copies may attract a fee.
What happens if I am sick and I need to miss a class?
If you are sick you should get a medical certificate. Please note that just because you are sick it does not excuse you from the class work or any assessments. You will need to catch up on the work in your own time or arrange to take an assessment at a later time. This is your responsibility.
Will BIT help me find accommodation and a job?
Yes, BIT has a counselling service that will help you with any problems you may have when arriving in Melbourne to study. We will help you find a place to live, with any rental problems, job search, resume writing, interview techniques etc.

Is your campus easy to access?
Yes. Our main campus is located in the heart of Melbourne on Bourke Street. We’re surrounded by food, shops and entertainment!

What are you admission requirements?
- Australian year 12 equivalent
- IELTS overall band score of 5.5.
- Must be over 18 years old by the time of proposed commencement.
- Students with school aged dependants accompanying them may be required to pay full fees if they enrol in government or non-government schools.

Can I get recognition for prior learning or course credits?
Course Credit (CT)/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be granted to international students. Reduction in units may reduce the duration of the course. Full details on the admissions page.
What type of visa will I need?
A 572 Visa. Please see DIAC for more information.
Can I bring my children or my spouse to Australia?
Yes. You can bring your partner or children on a dependant’s visa. Please visit www.immi.gov.au for more nformation.

Will I get to practice in a real kitchen?
Yes. We have three operational commercial kitchens where you will do your practical hours.
How many hours a week will I have to study?
You will study approximately 21 hours a week (generally three days a week).
How many hours a week can I work?
You can work a maximum of 20 hours a week during study time and full time during the official holidays. We cannot change our class times to suit your working schedule. It is up to you to make sure that you get to class on time and that your working hours do not interfere with your study time. Please see DIAC for more information.
