Orientation & Induction

As per Standard 6.1 of National Code 2018, BIT provides assistance to students to adjust to study and life in Australia, including through the provision of an age and culturally appropriate orientation program that includes information about

  1. Support services available to students in the transition to life and study in a new environment.

  2. Language, literacy and numeracy support

  3. Emergency and health services

  4. Legal services

  5. Facilities and resources

  6. BITs complaints and appeals processes

  7. Any student visa condition relating to course progress and/or attendance as appropriate

  8. BIT’s expectation of students as outlined in the Students Code of Conduct (refer to the BIT Student Handbook)

You are required to take part in an Orientation. This occurs on the first day of your course and is organised to inform new students about their study program, their faculty, units of study and most of the aspects of life at BIT. We ensure that our students learn in an environment free from harassment or discrimination. We can also refer students to community support services if needed.Orientation is held at our main campus: Orientation not only provides you an opportunity to become familiar with the campus but also the City of Melbourne.

All international students must also complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment at the time of orientation. This helps to establish your competence in English literacy and general numeracy. The results allow BIT to provide any additional support to you that may be required. on an individual basis.
